Creating gracious connections to the outdoors was a key part of our design for this new home. We looked for ways to achieve this while respecting the character of the architecture. Screened porches and covered balconies on both levels of the house, in front and back, let the homeowners enjoy fresh air from shaded comfort; these overhangs also help cool the house. Open wide, strategically placed French doors naturally ventilate the home and bring light to the interior. Traditional details — arched doorways, moldings, an elegantly curved stair — and authentic materials like white oak and brick ground the house in history.
